The Last Lecture

Six months ago I watched Randy Pausch's The Last Lecture on You Tube for the first time. At that time Randy's lecture was sweeping the world with millions tuning in to his captivating presentation. And I became another one of those host of viewers.

Randy lost his battle to pancreatic cancer last Friday, July 25th. Tonight, I watched Dr. Pausch deliver his last lecture again.

Over the months since I first watched this lecture and then learned of his best selling book on his advice for living life, I've been thinking. Yes, he got me thinking about what my "last lecture" would be to those I love most. What would I convey to them that has mattered most to me from my brief time here on planet Earth?

There is no way I could deliver MY last lecture and leave out the topic of "Religion & Spirituality" like Randy chose to do. To be sure, I do not consider myself religious. I do not "belong" to a traditional church building/business. In fact, one of my favorite books this past year is So You Don't Want To Go To Church Anymore by Jake Colsen. But I cannot deny, even intellectually, the core of my being.

To be perfectly candid, I think I have put to practice just about all of Randy Pausch's advice during the past half century. I've known amazing successes. I've also blown it personally and professionally. For me, neither failure nor success has sated the hunger deep within for more ... the water that satisfies.

At the culmination of his lecture, Randy reveals that he's just given his Last Lecture for his three children. I've dodged a few bullets along the way. So, before it's too late for me to deliver, I have my own Important Advice:
  • ...don't try to figure out everything on your own
  • Run to God!
  • Walk With God!
