I promised more information in my earlier post Why Are YOU Doing THAT? and so here it is:
A serious health wake-up call shortly after the 2000 mellinium motivated me to take a serious look at just about everything in my life. I've never been afraid of dying. After having been in the funeral and cemetery business for 25 years, I know that none of us gets out of here alive. I just don't want to waste away and be incapacitated and dependent on someone else to care for my basic needs.
Like so many people, in my late 20's and 30's I was busy starting a family, chasing the business success dream (and what a ride it proved to be for me!), and trying to juggle it all to align with my values and beliefs. Despite my best efforts, I didn't do a real good job of it all :-(. Remaining physically fit by working out and regularly getting a good night's sleep seemed to get pushed further to the back burner. I managed to top the scales at close to 300 pounds. Walking up an incline took my breath away. My blood pressure was high and going higher. Multiple other medical problems started to manifest themselves. Through patient persistence and love, my wife prevailed upon me to do my part at sticking around for our three children and her. My oncologist and intern provided me with a candid and awful visual. She helped me to understand that with my medical "issues" that I had roughly a 90% probability of having a stroke within the next year and that's in addition to everything else I was dealing with. My doctor explained that the reults of strokes are not predicable, that I could be laid up in bed with my wife changing my diaper! Get that picture in your mind and you'll have a clear instant photo of what I saw in my mind's eye.
I started a weight loss plan and exercise program that I still follow. I drastically changed what I eat and drink. I started getting 8+ hours of sleep regularly. I added meditation and prayer to my daily lifestyle. I quit my corporate job (there was also the need to be closer to our aging parents that motivated me to quit and relocate).
Besides a number of prescription medications, I was taking quite an array of supplements. With my Rich Dad, Poor Dad lessons still very fresh in my mind, I had a desire and need to earn additional income---residual income, the kind that keeps on giving. Kiyosaki's teaching of "wanting money to work for me instead of me working for money" lead me to start looking around for something I could do in a few hours each day from my office at home. I answered an Internet job posting ad, recieved a call directing me to a website, checked it out, and joined. I started purchasing my supplements from myself online instead of the local health food store or large chain vitamin store. I shared it with friends and family like most of these MLM or network marketing companies teach you to do. When most proved to be "not interested" I started running my own ads. Within two years and teaming with some wonderful like-minded people, we managed to build a group of close to 2,000 members.
It's not real complicated---at least in my way of thinking. I'm still purchasing things I was before. Only now I obtain them through my own distributorship. I earn money by sharing the concept with others who want to earn additional income by purchasing from themselves online what they're already buying from their local store.
I've learned a lot of what to do and what NOT to do in the last few years of my Internet network marketing adventure. I'll share more about some of the things to look for and what you should avoid in a future post.
And for the record, today I'm 90 pounds lighter. I am in the 10% category because the stroke never happened. With 1 exception, I'm prescription medication free. I'm still taking supplements. I am in better shape today than I was 30 years ago!
